Finnish first for RHS Chelsea

For the first time in its history, the RHS Chelsea Flower Show will feature a Finnish Garden. The creative force behind the Finnish garden in the Space to Grow category is Finnish landscape designer, horticulturist and environmental biologist, Taina Suonio for sponsor Kyrö Distillery Company.

The Roots in Finland Kyrö Garden by Taina Suonio won the silver-gilt medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019. Taina Suonio is an accomplished Finnish landscape designer, horticulturist, environmental biologist, and researcher. The garden was made in partnership with several Finnish companies and supported by the Finnish-British Chamber of Commerce. The main sponsor of the garden is FBCC Member Kyrö Distillery Company. They see the garden as exporting their raw materials and Finnishness in a homely manner. “Taina has done excellent work and actually, out of the raw materials presented in the garden, we could distil a gin”, says the MD Miika Lipiäinen of Kyrö Distillery Company…

THE ROOTS IN FINLAND KYRÖ GARDEN

The Chelsea Flower Show 2019 will for the very first time in its long history feature a Finnish Garden.

The main sponsor of the garden is Finnish rye distillery Kyrö Distillery Company, which, after winning the Best Gin & Tonic with their Napue at the International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC) in 2015 has also found favour with the demanding British gin-loving audience.

Gardener Taina Suonio visited Kyrö Distillery in Ostrobothnian village Isokyrö in February to gain inspiration and meet the Kyrö team.

In 2019 Chelsea Flower Show, Finnish garden designer Taina Suonio won silver with her “Roots in Finland Kyrö Garden”. Most of the plants and other elements from that garden were transferred to the Finnish Embassy in London where the staff have been able to enjoy them ever since.
