Connected, by EXANTE

GLDA Compass

Biodiversity

By making small decisions in design, we can support
biodiversity in gardens. Whether it is your own patch, an
RHS Chelsea Flower Show Garden or a public park the same
design principles work for gardens of all sizes and if adopted
universally will contribute locally, regionally and in the larger
scheme of matters, globally.

RHS: Connected, by EXANTE

Connected, by EXANTE is a cool, calm woodland sanctuary. There’s a space among the tranquillity for people to connect inside the main feature, a natural larger-than-life oak tree stump. The unusual centrepiece has a skylight roof encircled by a vegetated edge.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show seems a while ago now, but we are still enjoying the memories of what was another amazing experience at the show.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show seems a while ago now, but we are still enjoying the memories of what was another amazing experience at the show. A lot of hard work goes into producing such a beautiful garden, but with the use of a handy time-lapse camera, we have managed to fit this into a 2-minute video.

We hope you enjoy watching the garden, Connected by EXANTE, come together.

Chelsea Flower Show: Connected by EXANTE - a nod to ‘British culture’ for Queen's Jubilee

THE CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW will be coming to a close on Saturday after five days of stunning floral displays, beautiful gardens and plenty of inspiration. With this in mind, Express.co.uk has spoken to the incredible mind behind Connected, by EXANTE, a green garden with a unique “connection” to “British culture” and the Queen’s Jubilee.

Nicholsons Lockhart Garratt Return to Chelsea Flower Show

Nicholsons Lockhart Garratt are to return to RHS Chelsea Flower Show to build the most magical garden “Connected by EXANTE” for Finnish designer Taina Suonio.

We could hardly believe our luck when we received the invitation to join forces with Taina at Chelsea in 2022. Our beating heart is to lead on sustainability, not only in garden design but also construction techniques. We have a growing awareness that the extensive use of concrete and hard landscaping materials is not only unsustainable in terms of carbon usage but also does not enhance biodiversity.

Gardenista: Into the Woods, A Fairytale Garden Pod at the Chelsea Flower Show

Landscape designer Tania Suonio’s “Connected” garden at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show is deeply personal in many ways. It was largely inspired by her mother, who died earlier this year but instilled in her daughter a deep reverence for nature. “She believed that even the rocks or trees had a spirit. Because of her, my connection to nature is very strong and I wanted to honor her with the garden.” We joined the designer for a peek inside.

EXANTE is sponsoring a garden at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show

In the Sanctuary space of the Chelsea Flower Show, you will find The Connected, by EXANTE garden. It was designed by Finnish landscaper and researcher Taina Suonio and made of entirely green and recycled materials, encouraging biodiversity and improving both mental and physical health.

The garden’s centrepiece is a three-metre Royal Oak Tree stump – an ‘office’ in nature. EXANTE purposefully chose the oak as a British symbol and a nod to Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. It also contributes to the surrounding biosphere in many ways – as a home, food source and part of the water cycle. Up to 100 different species can live in or on one oak tree, or feed on its various parts. As a result, conservation of oak forests is vital to the wellbeing of the earth, meaning we’re not only supporting people’s wellbeing, but also that of the planet.
